BA in Sociology (Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Brazil), MSc in International Comparative Education (Stanford University, USA), PhD in Education (University of Edinburgh, UK)
I am a sociologist with a broad interest in social stratification and its relationship with education. I have been analysing how the expansion of higher education systems impacts educational inequalities and social mobility in Latin America.
I have previously examined the impact of affirmative action policies on the field of study choice at the undergraduate level and international mobility programmes on educational inequalities in the Brazilian higher education system. Currently, I am examining whether types of Higher Education institutions and fields of study operate as mechanisms to preserve social stratification in the South American higher education system following recent expansion policies.
As a Research Associate, I am examining inequalities in access to higher education, especially postgraduate education, doctoral education and international higher education in the UK context.
I supervise undergraduate and masters dissertations on topics around Social Justice and Education.
