Wednesday 10 June 2020, 4.00PM to 5.00pm
Speaker(s): Giulia Bovolenta
In this talk, I will present a series of experiments I ran as part of my PhD research, exploring the extent to which it is possible to acquire rule knowledge through implicit learning and employ it directly in spoken production. As case study, I used a semi-artificial language based on English, but with spatial prepositions being replaced by pseudowords which behaved according to the rules of a different language (Czech). The results of the studies suggest that it is possible to acquire implicit knowledge and use it immediately in spoken production, but the learning outcomes are sensitive to fine-grained aspects of the learning paradigm being used.
