Equal opportunities policy within the Department works in conjunction with the University policy to ensure that all staff (both academic and non-academic) and students are treated fairly regardless of their age, race, colour, nationality, ethnic origin, creed, disability, HIV status, sexual orientation, gender, marital or parental status, political belief or social or economic class, or any other criterion accepted by the University Council.
The Economics department has its own equal opportunities officer (see below for contact details) who is responsible for ensuring that these policies are put into practice within the Department.
She can provide support and give advice to both staff and students on any of the above issues. She serves as the first contact in dealing with any equal opportunities issues that may arise within the Department. She would try to resolve the problems at first; the Head of Department might also be consulted if appropriate; she would then take the matter to the University if a satisfactory outcome cannot be reached.
Both staff and students can be assured that all complaints will be treated as being strictly confidential. Students, however, should feel free to discuss matters with their supervisors if they wish.
