"We are particularly proud of our leading positions in many major fields, and take great pleasure that we continue to deliver high quality research with an increasing and wider impact to society."

As of September 2018, the IDEAS/RePEc has ranked the Economics Department at the University of York the 52nd in the world and 7th in the UK. By subject, York has done particularly well in the fields of Health Economics, Econometrics, and Microeconomics. For Health Economics, which York has pioneered for decades, we are No.5 in the world, just after NBER, Princeton, World Bank and MIT. Three members of our faculty are among the world top health economists: Professor Andrew Jones is the UK No. 1 and 16th globally, while Professor Nigel Rice and Professor Luigi Siciliani are among the world top 100 as well. For Econometrics, we are 16th internationally and No. 3 in the UK, where Professor Yongcheol Shin is No.2 in the UK and 18th internationally. For Microeconomics, York takes the 39th position in the world.

IDEAS is the largest bibliographic database dedicated to Economics.

Professor Yuan Ju, Chair of the Departmental Research Committee said: "Together with the most recent Tilburg and Shanghai rankings, this offers another strong recognition of our research. Given different methodologies and criteria of these prominent rankings, the fact that our Economics Department retains world top 100 and UK top 10 confirms the robustness of our research excellence.
