Vanbrugh College

The Great York Cake Off is back, and there are several ways in which you can get involved this year:

  1. Bake
You can enter a cake, cupcake or traybake into our competition, and be in with a chance of being crowned best baker!
  2. Eat
You can come along to the event on Friday 18 October and eat some free cake - there will be donation pots around if you wish to make a donation.
  3. Buy
Purchase the winning cake from any Eat at York outlet on campus!

Our expert judges will select one winner from each category, with one being crowned our star baker! The winning bake from the GYCO will be sold across campus for a full term, with profits donated to Mentally Fit York. Our champions will also win a share of £100 worth of baking goodies, a Great York Cake Off apron and more!

We are no longer accepting entries for the Great York Cake Off online. If you would like to enter please contact us via email

Mentally Fit York

"In the last 14 years mental ill-health has risen by around 50%. These statistics need to change." Mentally Fit York are raising funds for two areas they hope will help prevent mental ill-health, Mental Health Nursing Scholarships and Mental Health First Aid courses.

  • The Mental Health Nursing Scholarships will benefit students and members of the community as they'll be training in a wide number of community settings. £2,000 will be enough to support a Mental Health Nursing Scholar for a year.
  • Mental Health First Aid courses help educate individuals on the signs and sympotoms of mental ill-health issues, helping them to support people struggling with their mental health. £25 will pay for one student to take part in a Mental Health First Aid course!

Once the winning cake has been decided, our bakery team will work with the winner to recreate their recipe and this will be available to purchase across campus. 25p from each sale will be donated directly to Mentally Fit York. Our target is to beat our previous amount raised, which was £324.82
