Results and Feedback

Notification of Results

The Student Services team in Computer Science will formally notify you of your results through e:Vision. This will take place after the Board of Examiners (BoE) has met and seen your marks for each Semester (and any Resits, where applicable).

Board of Examiners' meetings are 'closed': that is, there are no students present. They consist of teaching members of the department, and external examiners. For more information, go to the University's Assessment and Feedback policies.

Provisional assessment results are made available within 25 working days of each assessment. We will send a message to you via the VLE to let you know when your results are ready. We will also keep you updated via the VLE on occasions where there may be adjustments or delays to your results.

After the assessment period in Semester One, Board of Examiners' meetings take place to confirm your marks (Module Assessment Boards).

After the assessment period in Semester Two, the Board of Examiners meet again to confirm your results via another Module Assessment Board. After these have taken place, Board of Examiners' Ratification Panels then take place in order to make recommendations about what your marks mean for the progression to the next stage of your programme, or your award, if you are in your final year of study.

Generally you can expect to see your programme results on e:Vision within ten working days of the main examination boards' meetings taking place. It is important to note that all marks remain provisional until they are accepted by the Board of Examiners.

Notification of Sits and Resits

The CS Exams team  (cs-exams@york.ac.uk) will notify undergraduate and postgraduate students by email if you are required to select resits (this is done through a task in your EVision account). This is usually within ten working days of the Ratification Panel.

Please ensure you check your University email account and e:Vision regularly around end of year results to ensure that you respond by the deadlines indicated. We strongly recommend that you discuss your resit choices with your academic supervisor. Students who have complicated resit decisions to make may also receive an email from the CS Exams team with further advice.

Script Viewing sessions for in-hall examinations

For in-hall examinations, we offer our students the opportunity to view their exam scripts, together with the question paper and model solutions, in order to gain individual feedback on their exam performance. Script review sessions are scheduled in 30 minute slots.

Students are not allowed to take photos, or to have their phones with them during the sessions. The scripts cannot be removed from the room. We will, however, provide students with pens and paper for taking notes. Students are not permitted to use their own writing equipment, and any student seen tampering with their script will be investigated for academic misconduct.

Notes:

  • Only clerical errors (i.e. errors in the addition of marks and sections that appear unmarked) will be considered for changes to marks.
  • Students are not allowed to appeal against the exercise of academic judgement (See guidance on Formal Stage Appeals
