Postgraduate taught students: all MSc courses (except SCSE)

Module descriptors

Students on ACS, Cyber Security, AI and HCIT take the appropriate project module for their programme.

Normal University rules apply to lateness penalties, extensions, and so on.

All students are required to complete an ethics checklist prior to commencing the implementation of their research methodology. The ethics checklist can be found here, and should be filled out and shared with the advisor.

Module timings

The following timings apply:

Early Semester 2: Project selection database open to staff
S2/3: Introductory session, and catalogue opens for browsing.
S2/7: Project allocation first round.
S2/9: Allocation closes.
S2/10: Initial meetings with project supervisors.
SS/1: Full-time work on project begins.
SS/13: Project hand-in deadline.

Supervision arrangements

Each student should have 6 hours of project supervision meetings between S2/10 and SS/13. The majority of this supervision time takes place during the Summer Semester. Each student must agree a supervision schedule with their supervisor, which splits the summer into three blocks:

Block 1. SS/1 - SS/4
Block 2. SS/5 - SS/9
Block 3. SS/10 - SS/13

Each of these blocks should have 1-2 hours of supervision meetings, in order to ensure that the meetings are evenly distributed over the Summer Semester. The schedule should include agreed project milestones with supervisor feedback. Please take account of staff and student vacation time when planning the supervision schedule.

Format and submission

Students on MSc Advanced Computer Science, MSc Cyber Security, MSc AI, and MSc Human-Centred Interactive Technologies should submit a project report according to the formatting specification for their programme:
