Students with families

We have a number of houses in Halifax College for students with families along Garrowby Way, and we also offer support to those who live in McHugh Court.

Events and Activities

Whether you decide it is best for you to live in-College or off-Campus, we have a variety of activities tailored for the enjoyment of students with families.

Faxival is our annual summer event, and is open to all members of Halifax College. The barbeques and giant inflatables make it perfect for student parents and their children. It's one of the most exciting events of the year!

Our annual Christmas Party is held on either Christmas Eve or Day, and is aimed at student families who have remained in York for the Winter break. Father Christmas makes an appearance to make the day even more exciting for all the children!

In addition to annual events, we run a number of activities aimed at the children of students throughout the year.

These include:

  • Arts and Crafts, such as Pumpkin Carving and Junior Gardening
  • Children's movie nights

In the past, these have proved fantastic opportunities for children to socialise with each other, and for you and other student parents to socialise outside of your studies.

Other Initiatives

As well as the Halifax Social Calendar, the Graduate Student Associationand the International Student Association also provide an additional support network if you are looking to expand your social calendar to events outside of Halifax College. From fully funded sports sessions to international food events, they cater to a variety of interests.

Child Care

We understand that whether you decide to live on campus or off, knowing that your child is being looked after is one of your main priorities.

There are many fantastic schools and nurseries in and around York. You can visit the University Nursery and Pre-School page for more information about part- or full-time care on campus.
