Women’s Homelessness in Europe Network (WHEN) launches new website

Posted on 7 March 2018

New platform for collaborative research and resources on women's homelessness.

The Women’s Homelessness in Europe Network (WHEN) has launched a new website with a range of statistics and publications on women's homelessness. The website aims to provide a platform for people to connect and to share ideas, data and new research. The site will also enable researchers, policymakers and service professionals throughout Europe and beyond to join WHEN as Associate Members and invite 'Think Pieces' on women's homelessness.

WHEN, a pan European network of scholars in the field of women's homelessness, is Co-directed by Joanne Bretherton of CHP. Other CHP staff, Deborah Quilgars and Professor Nicholas Pleace are both members of WHEN. Established in 2012 in response to a lack of academic and policy attention to the gender dimension of homelessness, the network seeks to enhance understanding of issues at the core of women’s homelessness and to highlight and address gaps in current thinking and research. One principal aim of the Network is to foster international collaborative research on gender dimensions of homelessness.

Organisations that have awarded funding to WHEN include the Irish Research Council, University of York, Dublin Region Homeless Executive and Focus Ireland.
