Luis Fernandes joined the Centre for Health Economics in 2017 as a PhD Fellow of the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network “Improving Quality of Care in Europe (ICQE)” within the Horizon 2020 programme of the European Commision.
His thesis focusses on identifying indicators that provide strong signals of quality of care and safety of patients in the hospital sector, as well as variations in practice and incentives to transform it. The research project examines patient-level administrative data within the United Kingdom, employing panel data and multilevel models, under the supervision of Professor Martin Chalkley and Dr Nils Gutacker. This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement No 721402.
Luis holds a MSc in Health Economics from the University of York, and an MD from the University of Coimbra in Portugal, where he previously worked as a public health specialist within the national health service.
