Abstract:
Where clinical evidence to inform an economic model is limited, it is often necessary to share information from other sources. However, the choice regarding which additional evidence to share from, and how the evidence should be shared (i.e. which modelling assumptions to use) can have significant impacts on clinical effectiveness, and on resulting cost-effectiveness estimates.
Via reanalysis of a NICE appraisal on psoriasis in children and young people (TA455), I investigate different approaches for sharing information from an adult population. In particular, I explore the use of a novel approach for sharing of dose-response information in evidence synthesis – dose-response Model-Based Network Meta-Analysis (MBNMA). I will end with a more general discussion of information sharing using structural relationships, how we might inform structural parameters, and how we ensure that we are improving precision without introducing bias.
