Discrete event simulation modelling for HTA

Thursday 21 April 2022, 11.15AM to 12.15pm

Speaker(s): Dr Praveen Thokala, University of Sheffield

Abstract: Despite the diversity in the problem types, most health economic studies involve developing cohort models (e.g., Markov models, partitioned survival models or decision trees). Discrete Event Simulation (DES), which is widely used in other fields such as engineering, is better suited for some decision problems in HTA. In this talk, Dr. Praveen Thokala will provide a brief overview of DES and highlight the use of DES for HTA to support microsimulation, resource modelling and incorporating patient behaviour using case studies. Finally, he will outline recent work around using process mining techniques on real world data to support discrete event simulation.
