Using Value-of-Information methodology to inform the design of clinical trials in rare diseases

Thursday 8 October 2015, 12.30PM to 1.30pm

Speaker(s): Jason Madan, University of Warwick

Abstract: Clinical trials of treatments for rare diseases are challenging to conduct. The Innovative methodology for small populations research (InSPiRe) study is a three-year EU-funded project that is exploring novel decision-theoretic methods for trial design in small populations, including value-of-information analysis. In this presentation, I discuss the challenges of applying value-of-information approaches to small populations and adapting such methods to different national policy-making contexts, and compare and contrast statistical and health economics approaches to this challenge.
