Cost-effectiveness analysis with artificial intelligence techniques

Tuesday 21 August 2012, 12.00PM to 1.00pm

Speaker(s): Mar Yebra and F. Javier Díez, Departmento de Inteligencia Artificial, UNED, Madrid, Spain.

Abstract: Probabilistic graphical models (PGMs) emerged in the 1980s as a framework for reasoning and decision making in domains involving uncertainty. They have been expanding exponentially for 25 years both in academia and industry as they have been able to solve many problems that exceed by far the capabilities of previous modelling techniques. In spite of their increasing popularity in artificial intelligence, most medical decision analysts and textbooks are still unaware of the mere existence of PGMs. In this seminar, two artificial intelligence researchers will present the PGMs that their group has built for different medical problems, with emphasis on Markov PGMs for cost-effectiveness analysis.
