Can we reimagine global health? Reflections from a “Global South” researcher

Speaker(s): Kui Muraya, KEMRI - Wellcome Trust

Dr. Kui Muraya is a senior gender and health systems researcher at the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme. She currently leads the gender and health research portfolio within the Programme. She is also a senior fellow of the Aspen New Voices Fellowship; and a former fellow of the Initiative to Develop African Research Leaders (IDeAL). She has a PhD in Health and Social Care from the Open University, UK; a Bachelor of Arts degree (majoring in Psychology & Anthropology) from the University of Adelaide, Australia; and a
Bachelor of Health Sciences degree (General Practice, Hons.) from the same institution. Beyond her scholarly work in gender and health systems, Kui is a passionate advocate on equity and social justice more broadly. In recent years she has been an active voice in the Decolonizing Global Health Movement, advocating for equity, diversity and accountability in Global Health partnerships and in the way we undertake and fund health research. Kui is also a budding non-fiction writer, focusing on issues affecting African women.
