Thursday 2 September 2010, 1.30PM
Speaker(s): Werner Brouwer, Professor of Health Economics, Research Director, Institute of Health Policy and Management, Erasmus University, Rotterdam.
In this presentation, some of the normative choices underlying current economic evaluations are discussed which influence the numbers we produce. Normative choices such as those regarding the outcome of interest, the perspective, the nature of the threshold and the inclusion of equity considerations will importantly affect how we judge different interventions. An explicit debate on the ethical framework for making such decisions is urgently required now that economic evaluations inform the allocation of resources more directly.
