Socioeconomic determinants of health, health behaviour and health inequalities

Policy makers and managers responsible for public health services need robust analytical tools for measuring socioeconomic determinants of, and inequalities in, health and health behaviour. They also need tools for monitoring change in health equity performance over time and identifying the equity effects of major changes in the organisation and delivery of public services.

Work in this sub-theme focuses on methods for identifying and measuring the determinants of health and health behaviour and inequalities and the impacts of public health interventions. Our work in this area is closely aligned to our related research theme on equity in health and health care.

Senior staff undertaking research in this area include: Richard CooksonTony Culyer and Susan Griffin (TEEHTA team); Andrew Jones and Nigel Rice (HEDG team); Maria Goddard and Hugh Gravelle (Health Policy team); Marc Suhrcke (Global Health team)
