Rethinking human rights locally
Inspired by Eleanor Roosevelt’s reflection that “universal human rights begin … in small places, close to home,” the Centre for Applied Human Rights (CAHR) has developed initiatives that foster a sense of ownership of human rights at local levels.
Our interest is in how human rights are created, shaped and transformed by context rather than simply interpreted in context. CAHR championed the 2017 declaration of York as the UK’s first Human Rights City.
