Whether you are completing the Level 5 or 7 course, the CMI qualification is the benchmark for business professionals working in the field of coaching and mentoring.
Our programme offers unrivalled levels of support and professional supervision, and participants will additionally earn a University of York Professional Development Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring. This is one of the few programmes in the country with dual certification.
The programme runs over a 3 month period with a total commitment of 5 days of classroom learning time.
Pre-course - Delegates complete a pre-course workbook that will introduce key concepts and encourage reflective practice. We will ask participants to complete a short learning styles questionnaire and an online personality profile (‘Big 5’ Personality Traits) that will add depth to the classroom sessions.
A three day, highly interactive workshop that will introduce the skillset of the professional coach and mentor. Learners will engage with a combination of classic and cutting edge theory, and put in into practice in a safe and supervised environment.
Interim - Participants will be asked to hold coaching conversations in the ‘real world’, whilst potentially forming peer supervision networks with fellow learners. We will ask participants to maintain a reflective coaching journal and keep a regular record of their experience and learning, following David Kolb’s reflective practice model.
A further 2 days, focussing on more advanced tools and techniques. We will consider the strategic impact of coaching and mentoring, and how participants can begin to develop coaching projects and initiatives that will drive the initiative forwards, and have a sustained impact.
Module 3 (Optional) - A final day for Level 7 delegates. This session will focus on the coaching methods developed specifically for work with leaders in the development of organisational strategy.
Supervision and Tutorials:
Two supervision sessions will be scheduled to focus on professional coaching practice, and two tutorials will focus on assignments and accreditation.
Learners will have the option of one to one tutorial support, and will be sent supporting materials and research in addition to those offered by the CMI. We will agree assignment deadlines with participants and schedule tutorials to co-inside with these.
A professional coach will have the tools, capabilities and knowledge to support learning, development and growth in their colleagues and clients.

Our tutors are carefully selected for their blend of exemplary academic credentials (MSc level and beyond) and experience in professional practice. All work as executive coaches, and bring both the most up to date theory and research in this field, and first-hand experience to ensure every session is directly relevant to working as a professional coach.
This programme is accredited by the CMI at Coaching & Mentoring level 5 or level 7.
Through attending each session and completing two assignments, delegates will gain an a Chartered Management Institute (CMI) either at level 5 or level 7 certificate in Leadership and Management.

All days will be taking place at the Ron Cooke Hub on Heslington East campus.
The programme will be £1800 per person for Level 5. This includes your registration and membership to the CMI Portal, tutorials and supervisions with your assigned tutor throughout your learning and all course materials needed to complete the programme.
