About us

The University of York believes that the productivity and performance of companies and individuals can be transformed with effective training.

At the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Unit, we have been delivering and supporting corporate training for over 20 years: that is over 50,000 learner days and over 400,000 hours of training in total.

Our customers appreciate our commitment to quality, our customer service and our ability to provide training that they can use in their business the very next day.

Programme outline

We deliver courses covering soft skills such as time management and career-specific courses such as sales and marketing. We deliver accredited courses such as CMI leadership training and work with companies to deliver bespoke programmes.

Our training reflects the strong research undertaken at the University. We work with University departments to develop and deliver training in a wide range of disciplines. If you are looking to understand more chemical testing techniques, safety critical systems engineering, medical device
development, or many other areas of current research, the CPD Unit can help.

The tutor is the vital relationship in any learning situation. Our tutors are teachers, motivators, consultants, challengers, directors and coaches. They want you and your company to succeed
and will provide their experience, insights and consultative capability to aid your learning.

All of our course leaders:

  • Have over 10,000 hours of business-relevant experience in their teaching area
  • Have delivered training courses for at least two years
  • Include in their course materials case studies that are relevant to your sector and business
  • Prefer interactive, practical learning environments
  • Are encouraged to support individual's workplace scenarios — if there is a specific issue you wish to focus on or a scenario that exists within your business, it is highly likely that our tutors will have experienced and managed it themselves
  • Continue to be curious about their areas of expertise

Accreditation

Management programmes can be accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) at Level
5 or Level 7. Through attending each session and completing assignments, delegates will gain a Chartered Management Institute (CMI) qualification in Leadership and Management at Level 5 or 7.
