British Academy Writing Workshops 2021

Social Welfare for Sustainable Development in Southeast Asia

The Writing Workshops, funded by The British Academy, is a collaboration of the University of York (UK), Gadjah Mada University (Indonesia), Thammasat University (Thailand) and Huachiew Chalermprakiet University (Thailand).

Workshop activities aim to encourage regional voices in academic writing and publications and broaden academic and research networks available to Indonesian and Thai social welfare scholars.

Selected participants take part in a series of online activities (including Plenary and in-programme sessions), receive ongoing support, and contribute to a final in country workshop.

 Activities run May 2021 to March 2022

  • A series of online sessions on grant writing; publication and career development.
  • Planning and preparation for writing journal papers.
  • Online mentoring and support for individual participants with established researchers to guide them through writing and submission.
  • A final 2-day workshop in their home country (Bangkok or Yogyakarta) to enhance networks and capacity building for the wider Southeast Asia region with further attendees drawn nationally and across South Asia.

The selection of participants is underpinned by ODA considerations and strongly encouraged expressions of interest from women, disabled people, minorities and candidates that are geographically dispersed.
