Nick Thornton

Postgraduate Supervisor

I am a Postgraduate Supervisor in the School for Business and Society and have worked at the University of York for 6 months. I began teaching EFL in 2010 and have since taught on English courses in a diverse range of countries, from Mozambique to Azerbaijan. After completing my DELTA in 2016 I moved into academic English teaching, delivering pre-sessional, foundational, and short courses to improve students’ academic skills.  I have also worked as a teacher trainer delivering certified methodology courses to Primary and Secondary school teachers in Vietnam and Thailand. I recently delivered the language and skills component of a postgraduate certification in Educational Management to educational leaders from Saudi Arabia at UCL.

I completed an MA in Sociocultural Linguistics in September 2019, which follows from personal and academic interests in variation and constructivist analyses of linguistics, and in historical discourse analysis to better understand systems of belief.
