Gulab Rani wins Vector Labs image competition

Gulab Rani, a PhD student working under the Immunology, Haematology and Infection theme, has been selected as a winner of the worldwide Vector Labs 2018 image competition.

Her image of macrophage populations in normal adult mouse spleen was selected as one of ten winning images that used Vector Labs products for sample staining.

Outstanding standards

This award highlights Gulab’s outstanding standards of sample preparation, staining and image capture. Gulab will be presented with a canvas of her image by the UK Managing Director of Vector Labs in recognition of her work.

Macrophage populations

The winning image is of macrophage populations in normal adult wild type mouse spleen.

Immunofluorescence staining was performed for red pulp macrophages-F4/80+ (red), marginal zone metallophilic macrophages (MMM)- CD169+ (magenta) and marginal zone macrophages (MZM)- SIGNR1+ (green) with counter staining with DAPI (blue) and mounting in VECTASHIELD Mounting Medium for Fluorescence.

The sample was scanned under 20x magnification on a Zeiss AxioScan.Z1 slide scanner in the University's Bioscience Technology Facility.
