York is a distinctive university, large enough to provide a vibrant social and cultural life, yet small enough to feel welcoming to all its students. The college system makes it easier for people to meet and make friends, and it encourages students to become involved in the huge range of social, musical and sporting activities available
In the Department and on campus
The Department has a friendly, informal and welcoming atmosphere, and there is a lively student-run BioSciences Society which organises lectures, sports and social events.
The welfare of our students is a high priority, and you will have a personal supervisor to guide you throughout your time here. Our supportive environment allows students to flourish. You meet with your supervisor specifically to discuss this at least once a year. We encourage you to widen your experience and skills and to develop your non-academic interests during your time at University. You can take advantage of the many extra-curricular activities on offer, both within and outside of the Department. Here are some examples of what’s on offer:
There’s lots going on for you to get involved with, on-campus and in the city centre.
