Professor Ian Graham appointed to UKRI BBSRC Council

Head of Department to become a Council member from April 2018.

The Head of Department, Professor Ian Graham has been appointed as a Council member to the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC).

The Council is one of seven research councils that have been brought together under the new organisation, UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), which controls a budget of £6 billion Government funding.

The BBSRC invested £469 million in world-class bioscience in 2016-17 and is responsible for advising and making decisions on scientific, research and innovation matters. They support around 1600 scientists and 2000 research students in universities and institutes across the UK.

Professor Ian Graham, Head of Department of Biology said:

'I am very pleased to have been selected as a UKRI BBSRC Council member and I look forward to contributing to the future direction of bioscience and biotechnology research and training for delivery of world class research for societal benefit.'

He will take up his position as Council member from 1 April 2018.
