Posted on 27 November 2019

Jenny Purcell from the Department of Biology is crowned national winner for her efforts in sustainability.

Green Impact is one of SOS-UK's flagship sustainability engagement and change programmes. It supports organisations, staff and students in making tangible changes to their practices, processes and ways of working towards a more positive future. Over time, Green Impact has grown into a powerful network of staff, students and leaders who are creating positive sustainability changes in their organisations, and in the community. Each year SOS-UK celebrates innovations and innovators in sustainability through its National Green Impact Awards.

Jenny has been praised for championing Green Impact to a wide range of teams within the Biology Department at York, increasing the number of people taking part and ensuring sustainability is truly embedded across the whole department. Jenny has been described as an “exceptional sustainability ambassador”. Read more from SOS, Students Organising For Sustainability UK.

Dr Jo Hossell, Engagement Officer at the University says "Jenny is so deserving of the recognition, she has set a very high standard in how to promote sustainability across a large and complex department, but the work she has done isn't just for the benefit of her team instead it has focussed effectively on how to help others achieve within the program as well."
