Chris Thomas receives honorary doctorate

Professor Chris Thomas has received an honorary doctorate from the University of Helsinki, Finland in recognition of his research on habitat fragmentation and climate change on the distribution of species, and his contribution to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

At a ceremony on 22nd-24th May, the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Helsinki conferred honorary doctorates on 13 prominent international figures from academia, culture and various sectors of society.

The conferment ceremony is a three-day graduation celebration, and is organised every three or four years. Doctors of Philosophy receive from the Faculty the right to bear the symbols of their academic status: the Doctoral hat and sword.
