Two partnerships involving the University of York have received a share of £100m funding from the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) to train the next generation of environmental scientists.

The first York team to enter the International Genetically Engineered Machines (iGEM) competition has won gold for their project. Working over the summer, the team of fourteen undergraduates researched and developed methods to manipulate microbes to more efficiently produce electricity by making gold nano-particles from waste water.

The University of York is launching a new undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences focusing on the science underpinning medicine.

Accreditation of bioscience degrees at the University of Liverpool, University of Manchester, Royal Veterinary College, and the University of York was celebrated at the annual Degree Accreditation Awards Ceremony, on the 4th September.

Biology has won the 200-500 staff category of the York Cycle Challenge for the second year running, comprehensively seeing off nearest rivals Tata Steel Projects. To celebrate our hard work, the organisers delivered cakes to the Atrium for all participants to share today and some lucky winners also had a free massage courtesy of the York Cycle Challenge team. Congratulations everyone!
