Research sheds light on immunological synapses

Research from York academics has demonstrated a new method of analysing cellular images which gives greater value than classic methods.
The researchers applied the method to a previously uncharacterised immunological synapse and identified a new and rare form of contact-based cell communication between white blood cells.
The method could be applied in many different fields of biomedical life science research to improve our understanding of the finer details of fundamental cell mechanisms and tackle diseases resulting from their breakdown.
The research was led by Nathalie Signoret, Senior Lecturer at Hull York Medical School, in collaboration with Peter O'Toole and Emma Rand from the University of York’s Department of Biology.
