The College has been launched to increase the Department’s access to scientific networks, broaden its evidence base, identify key areas of research interest for the department, and support the provision of scientific advice.

He is one of 45 external experts drawn from across academia and industry in the UK and will support the work of the Department’s Chief Scientific Advisor to help guide DfT decision-making.

Professor John said: “As a member of the DfT College of Experts, I am pleased to contribute my knowledge and expertise in systems, software and safety engineering, especially safety assurance for robotics, autonomous and complex systems, in order to advise policymakers.

“It is important to bring academia, industry and policy making together so that we can help the industry move forward.”
