Event details

MedInfo is a worldwide key event in digital health that gathers scientists, physicians, teachers, students, companies, institutions, and decision-makers.

Dr Habli, Dr Farah Magrabi (Macquarie University), Professor Niels Peek (University of Manchester), and Dr Adam Wright (Harvard Medical School) are running a panel discussion on Safety of Artificial Intelligence for Clinical Decision Support.

The benefits of Artificial Intelligence (AI) cannot be realised unless translated into safe and effective clinical decision support (CDS) tools. This panel will:

  • review the role of AI in CDS
  • discuss the clinical safety risks arising from problems with the design and build of AI
  • examine risks at the human-AI interface
  • discuss the regulatory and assurance perspectives and examine the extent to which it is possible to build on best practice in system safety

Yan Jia will also present a paper at MedInfo: "Developing a safety case for electronic prescribing". The paper focuses on approaches to modelling and analysing potential causes of medication errors, particularly those arising from the use of electronic prescribing. It sets out a systematic way of analysing hazards, their causes and consequences, drawing on the expertise of a multidisciplinary team. The analysis results are used to support the development of a safety case for a large-scale health IT system in use. The paper shows how elements of the safety case can be updated dynamically.
