John Pilling Choral Scholarships
St Helen-with St Martin offer four choral scholarships lasting 12 months available to both undergraduate and postgraduate students: soprano, altos, tenors and basses.
Scholars will be expected to sing at one of the weekly services during university terms and occasional feast days and special services. The regular pattern of services include a Celtic style Eucharist, a fully choral Mass, and occasional Choral Evensongs and most of these take place in the beautiful, medieval church of St Helen in the city centre.
Music is drawn from the main classical repertoire and mass settings by Haydn, Mozart and Schubert are regularly performed. The ‘Celtic’ Eucharist allows more scope for a wider and more flexible choice of music, and there are opportunities for cantata performances within the service context.
Each scholarship is valued at £500 per annum, for a period of one year and comes with a commitment to offer choral training in a small ensemble, and the opportunity for the scholars to develop their skills in the context of a city centre parish church.
Open to EU, International (including EU), International (non-EU) and UK (home) students.
Open to students in the School of Arts and Creative Technologies.
Any music or non-music university students are eligible to apply for these scholarships and auditions are held in February/March.
