Thesis - Historical Buildings in Heritage Cinema and Their Effect on the Visitor Experience

Exploring how historical buildings are used in heritage cinema and their effect on the visitor experience, and how this raises of questions of accuracy and authenticity.

Biography

My PhD research focusses on how English historic buildings are shown in heritage cinema and what lasting effect this has on the visitor experience at the filming locations. I am also a filmmaker specialising in educational immersive productions. I am also a promotional filmmaker.

Research Interests

My research focuses on heritage, historical architecture, heritage cinema, depictions of the past, postmodernism and the hyperreal on film. My filmmaking explores how immersive films can explain complex ideas in an understandable way, especially for children.

· November 2019: 'Mission to the Stars' was selected for the 360 Film Festival in Paris.
· July 2019: Runner Up in the HRC Photo competition.
· York Festival of Ideas June 2019: Creator, filmmaker, and experience designer of 'Mission to the Stars', a 360-4-screen immersive film experience that uses NASA footage and animations to take children on a journey through the solar system.
· York Festival of Ideas June 2018: Filmmaker and experience assistant of 'Welcome to the Bloom: Jellyfishin’', a 360-3-screen immersive jellyfish film to accompany a virtual reality experience designed by DC labs.
· May 2018: My aerial photo of Pontigny Abbey in France is chosen as one of the new magnets in the gift shop.
· April 2017: Highly Commended award for the HRC Poster Competition (this poster is now used as an example of a ‘successful’ poster by BAFTSS).
