Making Musicals in the Metaverse

Abstract: For the past two years a team of postgrad researchers from Digital Creativity Labs, have been making live musical theatre performance in Web-based VR, a rapidly growing field of digitally produced entertainment that sits at the convergence of immersive theatre, interactive media and narrative games design. Using Epic Games Unreal Engine, we are now exploring virtual production for film, the next stage in our progress towards modelling and making an Immersical®, an immersive, interactive musical. In this talk by members of our creative team we will discuss, and hopefully demonstrate, how we are learning to overcome some of the technological and artistic barriers to making live musical theatre performance in the metaverse.
