Event details

John East is one of the foremost television drama directors working out of the UK today.  With credits such as Killing Eve, The Last Kingdom, Lost In Space and his latest outing, the Ed Mercurio (Line of duty) scripted, Bloodlands, Jon has been at the forefront of British television drama for three decades.

Jon will be showing the season finale of Netflix no 1 series, The Last Kingdom, and discussing his directorial process in bringing this international hit show to the screen.  He will be covering all aspects of his directorial process including his approach to script, performance, cinematography, the edit and VFX, supported by copious preparatory documents, including his detailed storyboards, concept sketches and technical plans for shooting.  The Last Kingdom was a highly ambitious show featuring complex world-building and sequences of massed medieval battle.  Within that, Jon also needed to deliver emotional human story.  Bringing these elements to the screen required a full suite of directorial craft skills.

Jon will also be discussing his life in television generally, his career, and how he got started in the business.

This is an essential session for anyone interested in directorial craft and in filmmaking generally.
