Event details

Feature film screening followed by Q&A with the film’s writer/director Sam Hartshorn and Cinematographer Thomas Sandler

Cardboard Fort is a coming-of-age feature-length comedy invoking shades of Stand By Me, The Goonies and The Kings of Summer- all balanced with a distinctly British identity. The story follows Charlie as he retraces the steps of his chaotic summer holiday, in pursuit of uncovering the identity of the arsonist responsible for burning his beloved fort to the ground.

The film was made by a group of FTP students in the summer of 2019 (between second and third year of the programme) and produced for just £5000. It went on to receive its world premiere at the 28th Austin Film Festival in Texas in October 2021. Sam Hartshorn, the inspirational driving force behind the film, and Thomas Sandler (who graduated in 2020), will discuss how the project came about, the process of making it and the delights of screening their work to an American audience.

This is unmissable for anyone who burns to make an independent feature film.

This event is currently only open to TFTI staff and students

Sam Hartshorn and Thomas Sandler
