York's Department of Archaeology is the 8th strongest department in the UK, according to the latest Complete University Guide ranking (2023).
We have always been proud of the teaching and learning environment we foster at York, and of the community of staff and students that contribute to this.
Our expertise includes human evolution and prehistory, digital archaeology, heritage archaeology, bioarchaeology, and experimental archaeology. The city of York provides us with a rich cultural base for our learning, with historical buildings and significant remains from the Roman, Viking, and Medieval periods throughout the city.
We are delighted to have the quality of our teaching and learning endorsed in this way.
