Colonialism and horticulture in the eighteenth and nineteenth century

Deadline for applications for a fully-funded AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Award is fast approaching: 23rd November 2012.

The Department of Archaeology at the University of York and the Burton Constable Foundation, East Yorkshire, are pleased to offer a three-year AHRC-funded doctoral studentship to commence in January 2013, investigating the link between horticulture and expanding colonial ambition, within the private environments of the country house and their gardens at a time when modern scientific enquiry was rapidly developing.

The research will be supervised by Dr Jonathan Finch (University of York) and Dr David Connell (Burton Constable Foundation) with further support from specialists will be available in both institutions.
