As guest-curator of the new exhibition The Romans are Coming at Barnsley Museum until 5th January 2014, the Department of Archaeology's Jo Fletcher recently took the Earl of Wessex on a tour of some of its highlights. These include hoards of Roman coins, pottery and metal artefacts discovered in the Barnsley area, Roman glassware from Barnsley's art collections and objects loaned by Doncaster Museum, the Yorkshire Museum and the Malton Museum Trust. The displays also feature the results of scientific analysis carried out by Stephen Buckley, conservation work undertaken by Jenny Truran of Lancashire Conservation Studios, and weekly lectures and gallery talks by Jo, Elmet Archaeological Services, Maureen Carroll from the University of Sheffield, Eleanore Cox from the Portable Antiquities Scheme, Helen Harman from Sheffield Museum, Kev Cale of Community Archaeology Ltd. and others, together with weekly events for children.
