York CHM Alumna Jackie Jansen van Doorn works at the Military Museums in Calgary. As part of the supplementary material for the current exhibit: Walled Off: The Politics of Containment Jansen van Doorn was asked to speak about some of the ideas that she had studied through dark tourism and how her own research developed during her time in York.
Jackie Jansen van Doorn states:
I spoke about the concept of dark tourism and how it conincided with my own interests of history. I also spoke about how I thought these ideas could be useful and helpful in the Canadian heritage system and how if implemented properly, they could make an impact on sustainable reconciliation for our residential schools.
