York lecturer Jo Fletcher has been elected president of the Forest of Galtres Society. She replaces Peter Addyman, who relinquishes the post he has held since the early 1990s.
The society originated from a series of informal and exploratory meetings held at irregular intervals during 1953, later formalised into a body that seeks to interest local people in the appreciation and preservation of historical treasures and heritage—both tangible and intangible. Today, the society holds lectures, conducts field visits and carries out small projects.
