YOHRS: When lightning does strike twice; recovering from disasters

Tuesday 15 October 2019, 5.30PM to 18:45

Speaker(s): Liz Davidson

In 2014, the A listed Mackintosh Building at Glasgow School of Art experienced a devastating fire which resulted in the loss of its iconic Library. Almost exactly 4 years later and as the building was approaching restoration - another far more catastrophic fire destroyed all the interiors and wreaked major damage to the external shell of the entire building. The lecture will examine the process of recovery and rebuilding of both physical and less tangible aspects of this unique example of fin de siècle heritage.

Liz Davidson is the Senior Project Manager for the Mackintosh Building Restoration at the Glasgow School of Art.
