Join us for a fascinating discussion delving into the research at the University of York that featured in the recent ‘Swiped’ documentary on Channel 4!

In honour of Mental Health Awareness Week, on Tuesday 13 May at 7pm we’ll be hosting an online Q&A Session with Professor Lisa Henderson and Dr Scott Cairney, both of the University of York Psychology Department.

Together they’ll be commenting on the effect of smartphone use in children and the impacts of sleep disturbance on mental health.

Shockingly, 90% of people with depression also struggle with a sleep disorder. Dr Cairney will focus on his research programme seeking to better understand the neurobiological processes linking sleep to mental health. Professor Henderson will talk about her groundbreaking research showing that a 21-day smartphone ban can improve sleep, anxiety, and attention in 12-13 year olds.

With smartphone use already a national talking point, whether or not you have watched the Channel 4 documentary, it promises to be a truly interesting and highly relevant discussion.
