When all interviewers have their provisional shortlist you should meet to discuss your proposals and agree a final shortlist.

Ideally this should be done during a meeting to enable discussion about each candidate. However, it is possible for a shortlist to be agreed by email when holding a meeting would delay the process.

You should be looking to invite no more than six applicants for a single post to interview.

If you are having difficulty identifying which candidates you should interview, consider using telephone screening. This can provide you with more information that can help you separate candidates.

Dean Approval

The shortlist for all Academic, Research and Teaching roles at Grade 7, Grade 8 or Reader requires approval by a Dean or Associate Dean of Faculty. A Dean or Associate Dean can approve a shortlist in any faculty.
