A change in Home Office guidance, effective from 1 October 2022

During the Covid-19 pandemic, right to work checks were allowed to be conducted using scanned documents. The Home Office ended this temporary arrangement on 30 September. This means that for most new starters joining after 1 October, we need to check their original documents to verify their right to work. These original documents can be presented in-person or mailed to HR in advance of video call checks.

We are able to continue undertaking remote video call checks with 'share codes' for colleagues with biometric residence permits or status gained via the EU Settlement Scheme.

Booking a right to work check

All new workers will need to book an appointment before their start date. They will be sent a link to the appointment booking tool when they have completed the right to work form on the HR webpages.

In person right to work checks are being carried out in HR Reception in Heslington Hall on an appointment only basis. It is important that new starters do not attend without an appointment.
