Guidance for vulnerable staff, in line with new national guidelines

Government guidance, published on 4 November, advises further precautions for individuals who are deemed clinically extremely vulnerable. Staff who fall into this category should not attend the workplace until the end of the national lockdown (currently projected to be 2 December 2020).

Staff who are able to work from home should do so until the end of the current national lockdown. Individuals who are unable to work from home should inform their line manager that they are classed as clinically extremely vulnerable.

Line Managers should then notify HR via hr-enquiries@york.ac.uk.

HR will assess whether the member of staff is eligible to be furloughed in accordance with the extended furlough scheme known as the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme. Individuals who are not eligible for the furlough scheme will be paid in line with the University's sickness absence policy.

Full details of these arrangements were circulated to Heads of Department and Departmental Managers on 6 November. The full update on guidance for extremely clinically vulnerable staff can be found here.
