Joining the Scheme as a Mentor

Mentoring provides numerous benefits for mentors. It can support building your professional network, learning new ideas and perspectives and your own personal development.

The scheme is open for prospective mentors on an ongoing basis. Successful applicants will be required to undertake training for the role in order to join the mentor pool.

Once a member of the mentor pool, mentors are contacted at the start of each biannual mentoring round to confirm their availability and update their mentor form with any additional expertise they can offer mentees. Mentors are also invited to a bi-annual Mentoring CPD session.

An online Mentoring Briefing Session will be hosted at the start of each mentoring round to provide more information about the scheme and provide an opportunity for questions. Both prospective mentees and mentors are invited to this session.

To apply please complete the application form:

Please note: Tick as many of the 'broad topic' boxes for mentoring as you can as we use this in the matching process. There is also the opportunity to share other areas of expertise you feel you could contribute to a mentoring relationship. The more detail you provide in this form, the more helpful it is for our team to ensure the best match for mentees.

Before applying to be a mentor

Before applying to the scheme as a mentor, it is worth spending some time:

  • Evaluating your knowledge and skills: what experience do you have that may benefit others? What has worked and/or not worked for you? What has your own learning been across your experiences?

  • Reflecting on your communication style: Are you a good listener, able to provide constructive feedback, and comfortable offering different perspectives? Are you aware of your strengths and any areas to be mindful of?

  • Considering your availability: Can you commit to regular meetings and consistent communication with a mentee? What expectations and boundaries will you need to set to manage this?
