Accessing the apprenticeship levy as an employee of the University
The process, from discussion to programme placement
- Manager identifies apprenticeship opportunity for existing staff member
- Manager talks to POD to clarify apprenticeship standard, length, cost and establish basic rules
- People and Organisational Development (POD) send manager crib sheet to manager
- Manager ensures that employee is committed to apprenticeship
- Manager passes details of apprentice to POD
- Confirms existing Terms and Conditions will remain the same as apprenticeship programme is relevant to current role
- Identifies eligible training providers, in discussion with manager
- Tendering process carried out, if required
- Selects training provider and has initial discussion with them
- If apprentice is under 25, POD alerts Payroll for NI redemption
- Apprentice completes training provider's application form
- Training provider interviews apprentice
- POD inputs apprentice details onto the online portal
- Training provider issues training contract to POD
- POD signs training contract on behalf of University
- Apprentice commences training programme
- Monthly payments to training provider commence
- Issues commitment statement within six weeks of apprentice starting training programme
- Apprentice and manager co-sign commitment statement
- Issue apprenticeship agreement to apprentice within 6 weeks of start date
- Apprentices signs and returns apprenticeship agreement to POD
- POD sends apprenticeship agreement to HR Services and training provider
- HR Services upload the apprenticeship agreement onto ResourceLink
