I am Director of Planning at the University of York, responsible for a portfolio that spans strategic planning, insight, evaluation and risk.
My teams identify the key questions, choices and solutions that support the University’s strategic ambitions, and ensure that the University has the necessary knowledge and information to formulate, deliver and evaluate its strategic plans. They play a significant role in supporting both academic and professional services in identifying what they want to achieve, and planning for successful outcomes. They also ensure that strategic intent is always balanced by an awareness of the needs of our students and academics, and our ambitions to widen access and participation. Our current focus is on the development of the University’s 2030 strategy.
I graduated from the University of Oxford with a Masters degree in Chemistry in 1997 and qualified as a Chartered accountant at Ernst & Young in 2000. Following roles across the utilities sector, I joined the University of York in 2006, managing a number of teams in the Finance Directorate before becoming Operations Manager for the Faculty of Sciences in 2013. In July 2018, I moved to my current role as Director of Planning.
