Terms of reference

Terms of Reference

  1. To agree and oversee implementation of a common strategy, plans and policies for non-academic aspects of student life, to be jointly led by the University, YUSU and the GSA.
  2. To oversee progress in addressing Key Objective 3 of the University Strategy, 'To offer all our students an outstanding and valuable experience'.
  3. To identify the needs of specific groups of students (e.g. overseas, part-time, mature,visiting and disabled students, ethnic minority students and students with families) and ensure that these are addressed.
  4. To agree, in consultation with relevant directors, the annual priorities relating to services provided for students.
  5. To monitor the performance and effectiveness of all student-facing services against their strategies.
  6. To receive and consider reports from YUSU and the GSA on plans and activities.
  7. To receive and consider reports from the Colleges Board.
  8. To receive and consider reports from the Volunteering and Community Committee.
  9. To suport and help deliver overall improvements in student satisfaction, as measured by the NSS and other surveys and indicators.
  10. To support implementation of other key University strategies, including the Teaching and Learning Strategy and the Employability Strategy.
  11. To consider ways of promoting equal opportunities and diversity in relation to all the above.
  12. To report to Senate, University Executive Board and other relevant bodies on all matters relating to these terms of reference

The Committee will be jointly chaired by the Registrar and Secretary and the President of YUSU.

The membership will include two lay members of Council, student representatives selected by YUSU and the GSA, the YUSU and GSA Chief Executives, members of academic staff and professional support staff members.

The Committee will meet at least four times a year.
